Whisk together the marinade ingredients. Remove half of the marinade and set aside for basting the chicken while it grills. Add the chicken and chill for at least 30 minutes or up to 4 hours. For the most flavor, 2 to 4 hours is optimum.

Cook over direct heat for 6 to 8 minutes per side. Then move the thighs to a low heat zone of the grill. As the chicken grills, baste with reserved marinade. Remove from the grill, tent with foil, and let rest about 5 minutes before serving.
