You will need a microwave-safe mug that is 12 to 14 ounces.
In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined. Add the milk, oil, and vanilla extract; continue whisking until fully combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared mug and sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
Microwave for 60 to 90 seconds, the center of the cake should be just set. In my microwave (1100 watts) it takes about 75 seconds. But all microwaves are different. I recommend cooking for 1 minute and then testing the cake.
Remove the mug from the microwave and let cool for a few minutes. Top with whipped cream, crushed candy cane, sprinkles... whatever you have on hand that is Christmasy and festive. Enjoy!
