Honey Whole Wheat Bread for the Bread Machine is a firm, sweet loaf of whole wheat bread, unbelievably delicious for soups, sandwiches, and toast. It's my all-time favorite bread machine recipe.
Measure the flour by spooning it into a measuring cup, then sweeping off the excess with a knife.
Add the ingredients into a bread machine in the order listed in the recipe above. Program the machine, according to your manufacturer's instructions for basic whole wheat bread; press Start.
Remove the bread from the bread machine and invert onto a rack to cool before slicing.
Notes
Bread Machine 100% Whole Wheat: To use 100% whole wheat flour, add 3 ½ cups whole wheat flour (instead of a combination of whole wheat and all-purpose flour). You may also want to add 1 tablespoon Vital Wheat Gluten for a higher rise.
To Make the Bread by Hand:Mix the ingredients in a large bowl or in the bowl of a stand mixer.Once the dough comes together, knead it until smooth; about 8 minutes. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled; 1 to 1 ½ hours. Then, deflate the dough and shape to fit a greased 8 ½″ x 4 ½″ loaf pan. Let the dough rise one more time, covered, until doubled; about 1 to 1 ½ hours.Bake in a preheated 375°F oven for 35 minutes. Remove the bread from the oven, invert onto a rack to cool before slicing.
