Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray an 8 x 8 baking pan with cooking spray, or line with parchment paper and set aside.
Using an electric mixer, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Then add the eggs and vanilla; mix until combined and smooth. Fold in the mashed bananas; stir until combined. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt to the butter mixture; beat until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips. Spread batter into the prepared baking pan.
Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 5 to 10 minutes before cutting into squares. Serve warm or room temperature, spread with a little butter.
