High Hopes: A City in Blue & Green

Reflections on the electric hum of our rainy Seattle streets, the ultimate game-day spreads for the 12s, and finding cozy sanctuary at home.

The top of the Space Needle displays a large blue flag with the number 12, set against a cloudy sky and overlooking the city skyline, like a pantry reset offering a fresh perspective on familiar surroundings.

The Sunday Journal: A City in Blue, Green, and High Hopes

Living in Seattle, when you step outside at all this week, you feel it. There is a specific, electric hum in the air that only happens when the 12 Flag is flying high atop the Space Needle and the streets are a sea of blue and green jerseys.

As a former television producer, I learned quickly to lead with stories of the moment-and right now, this is the moment. While my editorial calendar originally whispered of ‘The Language of Love’ and early Valentine's Day prep, my heart (and my kitchen) is firmly planted in the excitement of a Super Bowl run.

There is something so special about the way Seattle pulls together during a championship week; it's about more than just a game-it’s about the gatherings, the shared cheers, and, of course, the food that brings us all to the table.

In this week's Edit, we're leaning into the roar of the crowd. From the ultimate game-day spreads that will keep your ’12s’ or any Super Bowl fans fueled to the simple joys of a PNW winter.

Weekly Dinner Meal Plan

Every week, we publish a healthy weekly dinner meal plan to take the “What’s for Dinner” dilemma off your plate. Here are this week’s dinner ideas.

In this February feast of one pot dinners, discover three delightful dishes: stir-fried noodles with crisp vegetables, succulent shrimp and orzo on a vibrant plate, and a skillet brimming with spiced ground meat, corn, zucchini, beans, and garnished with fresh green onions.

The Lifestyle Edit: Embracing a PNW Winter

In the chaos of our individual weeks, you have to create your own quiet spaces. For me, that means leaning into the textures and scents of a true Washington winter.

There is a unique beauty to our rainy streets, but the real magic happens indoors. This week, I'm finding joy in bringing a bit of the outside in-cedar branches from our backyard trees clustered together in a simple vase-lighting scented candles more often, and leaning into the comforts that make a house feel like a home.

1. The Family Room View:

There is nothing quite like watching the rain drum against the window while wrapped in the plush warmth of an Ugg blanket. It's my essential winter comfort (thank you to my brother’s family for this oh-so-wonderful gift). It’s also my happy place for the hours of football watching with the family.

A grey Ugg faux fur throw blanket draped over a modern wooden armchair with white cushions creates a cozy winter nook.
A clear glass vase with green pine-like branches sits on a dark wooden surface, evoking a sense of calm-perfect inspiration for your next pantry reset-with the glow of a lit fireplace in the background.

2. Winter Greens

A few clippings of evergreen from the yard are all you need to brighten a gray and winter afternoon.

3. The Game Day Kit

To keep the party moving, I'm relying on my Electric Tea Kettle, an insulated food carrier, my Staub Dutch Oven, which has lasted years, and the winter favorite crockpot. They are the workhorses of a busy kitchen.

A green Crockpot slow cooker with a glass lid, two side handles, and a digital control panel displaying cooking time and temperature options-perfect for meal prepping during your next pantry reset.

Looking Ahead

Thank you for joining me for this edition of The Sunday Edit. There is something restorative about leaning into the moments of life, whether that be a holiday, an observance, or even a hometown football game.

Next Sunday, as the final whistle blows on the season, we'll transition into a gentler rhythm. Join me for The Sunday Edit No. 4, where we will begin exploring The Language of Love just in time for Valentine's Day.
