Kitchen Tools
I’m using my stand mixer for this recipe, but a handheld electric mixer works just as well for making the batter. It’s also easy to make entirely by hand with a bowl, whisk, and spatula.
You will also need a 10-12 cup Bundt pan. I’m using a gold 12-cup Bundt pan.
How to Make an Easy Apple Spice Cake
An apple spice Bundt cake is one of the easiest cakes you can make. You can find step-by-step instructions in the recipe card below, but here is a brief overview:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and generously grease a 10 to 12-inch Bundt pan or tube pan.
Step One: Make the batter
Whisk the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, allspice, salt, and cloves until combined. Reserve 1 tablespoon of the flour mixture to toss the apples in. Set aside.
Combine the sugar, oil, eggs, and vanilla in a stand mixer or a large mixing bowl and mix until well blended. I like to use my stand mixer, but an electric mixer works just as well. It’s also an easy batter to mix by hand.
Step Two: Chop the apples
Peel, core, and chop the apples into small pieces, then toss with the reserved 1 tablespoon flour mixture. This helps keep the apples distributed throughout the cake.
Step Three: Assemble the Bundt cake
Pour 1/3 of the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle the top with 1/2 of the apples and 1/2 of the chopped nuts (if using)—alternate layers of batter and filling, ending with a final layer of batter.
Step Four: Bake the cake
Bake for 55 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. I like to let the cake cool in the Bundt pan for about 10 minutes before inverting it onto a rack to cool. This helps quickly release the cake from the pan.
I like to serve this cake by simply dusting powdered sugar over the top just before serving.
Easy Tips for Making a Bundt Cake
While this apple spice cake is easy to make, there are a few tips to help make it foolproof.
- Generously grease the bundt pan. A baking spray with flour works beautifully. Take a pastry brush and spread it into all the crevices of the baking pan.
- Use a large ice cream scoop to portion the cake batter into the pan. It makes spreading the batter evenly a lot easier.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes and up to 20 minutes. The cake will release from the pan more easily after sitting for a bit.
How to Store Apple Spice Bundt Cake
Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
For longer storage, you can freeze the whole cake or individual slices in an airtight container or freezer-safe resealable bag. It will keep for up to three months.
To thaw, refrigerate overnight and let the cake come to room temperature before serving.
