Here is a list of the ingredients needed to make this moist and delicious cake. The exact measurements are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Apples: Use your favorite variety of baking apples and dice them small
  • Nuts: I’m using chopped walnuts, but you can substitute these for your favorite nut, or eliminate them if you are concerned about nut allergies.

  • Large eggs at room temperature for stability and texture
  • Spices: Ground cinnamon, allspice, cloves and a dash of salt

Kitchen Tools

I’m using my stand mixer for this recipe, but a handheld electric mixer works just as well for making the batter. It’s also easy to make entirely by hand with a bowl, whisk, and spatula.

You will also need a 10-12 cup Bundt pan. I’m using a gold 12-cup Bundt pan.

How to Make an Easy Apple Spice Cake

An apple spice Bundt cake is one of the easiest cakes you can make. You can find step-by-step instructions in the recipe card below, but here is a brief overview:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and generously grease a 10 to 12-inch Bundt pan or tube pan.

Step One: Make the batter

Whisk the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, allspice, salt, and cloves until combined. Reserve 1 tablespoon of the flour mixture to toss the apples in. Set aside.

Combine the sugar, oil, eggs, and vanilla in a stand mixer or a large mixing bowl and mix until well blended. I like to use my stand mixer, but an electric mixer works just as well. It’s also an easy batter to mix by hand.

Step Two: Chop the apples

Peel, core, and chop the apples into small pieces, then toss with the reserved 1 tablespoon flour mixture. This helps keep the apples distributed throughout the cake.

Step Three: Assemble the Bundt cake

Pour 1/3 of the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle the top with 1/2 of the apples and 1/2 of the chopped nuts (if using)—alternate layers of batter and filling, ending with a final layer of batter.

Step Four: Bake the cake

Bake for 55 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. I like to let the cake cool in the Bundt pan for about 10 minutes before inverting it onto a rack to cool. This helps quickly release the cake from the pan.

I like to serve this cake by simply dusting powdered sugar over the top just before serving.

Easy Tips for Making a Bundt Cake

While this apple spice cake is easy to make, there are a few tips to help make it foolproof.

  1. Generously grease the bundt pan. A baking spray with flour works beautifully. Take a pastry brush and spread it into all the crevices of the baking pan.
  2. Use a large ice cream scoop to portion the cake batter into the pan. It makes spreading the batter evenly a lot easier.
  3. Let the cake cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes and up to 20 minutes. The cake will release from the pan more easily after sitting for a bit.

How to Store Apple Spice Bundt Cake

Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

For longer storage, you can freeze the whole cake or individual slices in an airtight container or freezer-safe resealable bag. It will keep for up to three months.

To thaw, refrigerate overnight and let the cake come to room temperature before serving.

    1. I have not yet tested this recipe with gluten-free flour but have had a lot of success with Bob’s Red Mill GF 1:1 flour in most of my baking.
