Why I Love This 4th of July Chex Mix

  • Five minutes to make (a few extra minutes to dry).
  • Handful of ingredients.
  • So good it’s almost addictive.

When it comes to quick-fix sweet and salty snacks, you can never go wrong with Chex mix! It’s perfect for parties, seasons, and, most especially, snacking.

One of our most popular festive snacks is the Christmas Chex Mix, but the Fall Chex Mix isn’t far behind.

But there is something decidedly fun and festive with a 4th of July Snack Mix! Filled with red, white, and blue M&Ms, it satisfies sweet tooths and helps set the mood for a day of celebration!

4th of July Snack Mix Ingredients

Specific measurements are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post, but here is a list of what you’ll need:

  • Chex cereal (I use Rice Chex to keep the red, white, and blue theme)
  • Mini pretzels
  • Red, White, and Blue M&Ms
  • Popcorn (little ready-made packages are just fine unless you want to pop your own).
  • White Chocolate for melting
  • Red, White, and Blue sprinkles: While this is completely optional, it does add a festive sparkle to the snack mix!

This 4th of July Snack Mix is the perfect addition to a big summer spread. While there will almost definitely be BBQ and more desserts than I can count, there needs to be a festive, sweet, and crunchy snack to tide everyone over. Plus, it’s a 5-minute treat you can whip up in no time—no baking needed!

If you’re a fan of our Christmas Snack Mix, you will see that I’ve swapped the marshmallows for popcorn for a slightly healthier and salty addition. If you prefer marshmallows, by all means use them instead of popcorn.

How to Make 4th of July Chex Mix

In a large bowl, combine the cereal, pretzels, popcorn, and M&Ms. Mix them up a bit to evenly distribute.

Step 1: Melt White Chocolate

Meanwhile, melt the white chocolate according to its package instructions in the microwave or over a double boiler or bain-marie.

Step 2: Coat the Chex Mix

Once the chocolate is melted and smooth, drizzle it over the cereal mix and combine it with a spoon or even your hands. Be sure the cereal mixture is evenly coated with chocolate. Melt a little more white chocolate if needed!

Step 3: Let Dry

Spread the mixture onto a large sheet of parchment or wax paper. Add the sprinkles before the chocolate is dry and let sit for 15 to 30 minutes or until the mixture is dry and the chocolate is cool and hardened. Break it into pieces and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer.

Store Christmas Crack in an airtight container at room temperature for several days to a week. Freezer for longer storage!

How to Freeze 4th of July Snack Mix

I store it in an airtight plastic bag in the freezer. I actually like it best right out of the freezer – this way it lasts for a long time without going stale.
