It’s truly… sigh-worthy. And when you smell that baking banana bread aroma circulating throughout the kitchen, you’ll know you’re home.
Wherever home may be, I say that because I tend to make this recipe in my home and the homes of my friends and family.
That baking bread aroma lends a feeling of security, a mouth-watering expectation of yumminess, and a signal to your brain that it’s comfort food time.
I’m feeling nostalgic because as I write this post, the snow is falling outside my window, stacking up and drifting under the trees.
It’s so incredibly beautiful—this January snow. My busy world has paused, and the silent, falling snow is so incredibly peaceful.
That’s rare in Seattle (falling snow… and peace — I’m smiling). With my warmest Irish wool sweater (straight from Ireland), another loaf of Chocolate Chip Banana bread baking in the oven, and a cup of my favorite tea, I’m one happy girl.
So the next time you’re feeling cozy or craving a homey, delicious treat, you’ll simply have to try this Chocolate Chip Banana bread—whether the snow is falling or not!
Oh… I mentioned “healthier” in the title. It is “healthier.” I’ve reduced the sugar and fat slightly, adding a bit of maple syrup to replace the sugar. But it’s still a treat. Just “slightly” less of a treat than normal.
Enjoy!
Healthier Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup cooking oil
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 3 bananas mashed
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup chocolate chips plus more for sprinkling on top
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and spray the bottom of a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan with cooking spray; set aside.
- In a medium bowl, stir together the cooking oil, maple syrup, sugar, eggs, mashed bananas, and vanilla. In another bowl, whisk together the salt, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, and flour. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the egg and banana mixture. Stir until the batter is just moistened. Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan and bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 55 minutes. Or until a toothpick inserted in the middle of the bread comes out mostly clean. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before using a sharp knife to loosen the bread from the sides of the pan. Invert the bread and let cool completely on a metal cooling rack.
