A quick and easy weeknight meal, not to mention friendly on the budget. These Honey Sesame Chicken Drumsticks are frequently on our weekly menu. But I must admit, I’m usually doubling this recipe.
The sauce is so delicious that I sometimes replace the drumsticks with chicken thighs or even wings for game nights in front of the television.
Honey and Sesame Chicken Drumsticks
8 medium chicken drumsticks
1 cup water
1/2 tablespoon sesame oil
2 teaspoons ginger, grated
3 cloves garlic, smashed
3 tablespoons rice wine
3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
3 tablespoons oyster sauce
2 tablespoons honey
2 tbsp chives or scallions, chopped
1 tsp sesame seeds
In a heavy large non-stick skillet, brown chicken on high for 3-4 minutes. Add water, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, rice wine, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and honey. Cook on high until the liquid comes to a boil.
Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered for about 20 minutes. Remove cover and bring heat to high, allowing the sauce to reduce, about 8-10 minutes, until it becomes thick, turning chicken occasionally. Top with chives and sesame seeds and serve.
