These Honey Sesame Chicken Drumsticks are frequently on our weekly menu served with some fried rice and an Asian-inspired snap pea salad. But I must admit, I’m usually doubling this recipe– it’s that good!

The sauce is so delicious that I sometimes replace the drumsticks with chicken thighs or even wings for game nights in front of the television.

Ingredients

Here is a quick list of what you’ll need to make this easy chicken drumstick recipe

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you recommend cooking these drumsticks in?

All you need is a large nonstick skillet with a lid. A cast iron skillet gives this chicken a delicious sear and is my preference for this recipe. But any nonstick skillet you have on hand will work too.

Do I need to remove the skin before cooking the chicken?

I prefer to in this recipe as you’re not making the skin go crispy in this recipe.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 8 chicken drumsticks
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons grated ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic minced or pressed
  • 3 tablespoons rice wine
  • 3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons scallions (or chives), chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  • In a large nonstick skillet, brown chicken on high for 3-4 minutes. Add water, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, rice wine, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and honey. Cook on high until the liquid comes to a boil.
  • Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for about 20 minutes.
  • Remove cover and bring heat to high, allowing the sauce to reduce, about 5-10 minutes, until it becomes thick, turning chicken occasionally.  Top with chives and sesame seeds and serve.

Notes

I prefer to removed the skin in this recipe as you’re not making it go crispy, if your drumsticks come with it still attached.
