These Honey Sesame Chicken Drumsticks are frequently on our weekly menu served with some fried rice and an Asian-inspired snap pea salad. But I must admit, I’m usually doubling this recipe– it’s that good!
The sauce is so delicious that I sometimes replace the drumsticks with chicken thighs or even wings for game nights in front of the television.
Ingredients

- Chicken Drumsticks
- Sesame Oil
- Ginger
- Garlic
- Rice Wine (or Cooking Sherry if you keep it in the house and can’t find rice wine)
- Soy Sauce
- Oyster Sauce
- Runny Honey (or Pure Maple Syrup)
- Fresh Chopped Scallions
- Chives, Parsley or Cilantro
- Sesame Seeds
Frequently Asked Questions
All you need is a large nonstick skillet with a lid. A cast iron skillet gives this chicken a delicious sear and is my preference for this recipe. But any nonstick skillet you have on hand will work too.
I prefer to in this recipe as you’re not making the skin go crispy in this recipe.

Honey Sesame Chicken Drumsticks
Equipment
Ingredients
- 8 chicken drumsticks
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 teaspoons grated ginger
- 3 cloves garlic minced or pressed
- 3 tablespoons rice wine
- 3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 2 tablespoons scallions (or chives), chopped
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- In a large nonstick skillet, brown chicken on high for 3-4 minutes. Add water, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, rice wine, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and honey. Cook on high until the liquid comes to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for about 20 minutes.
- Remove cover and bring heat to high, allowing the sauce to reduce, about 5-10 minutes, until it becomes thick, turning chicken occasionally. Top with chives and sesame seeds and serve.
