Salmon Pasta Ingredients
Ready to make this pasta dish? I hope so! Here’s what you need:
- Pasta: Any pasta will work in this recipe. I prefer a short tube pasta but I do make it with whatever kind I have on hand.
- Salmon: We’re using canned salmon here (but if you have leftover cooked salmon, it’s perfect too).
- Frozen peas: You don’t need to thaw them
- Creme fraîche: I do reach for lower fat when available
- Half and half (or milk or cream)
- Butter for flavor
- Aromatics: Garlic, dill, and Parmesan cheese
How to Make Salmon Pasta
A quick overview of how to make this pasta:
- Cook pasta until tender. Drain and set aside.
- Saute garlic in butter until soft.
- Reduce heat, add creme fraîche, half and half, and the peas; gently simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Add the salmon and dill; heat through and let the sauce thicken slightly.
- Toss pasta with the sauce to coat—season with salt and pepper to taste.
Pasta Ingredient Notes
Salmon: Let’s talk about the salmon. Yes, it’s canned. But if you have leftover cooked salmon—by all means, use that! Smoked salmon would be incredible. I always stock canned salmon in my pantry from Costco. It’s versatile and an easy meal maker.
Creme fraîche is most similar to sour cream. The difference is two-fold. Sour cream usually has a 20% fat content. Creme fraîche has a 30% fat content and doesn’t contain thickening additives. It’s also creamier and less tangy than sour cream.

Creamy Salmon Pasta with Peas, Dill and Creme Fraîche
Equipment
Ingredients
- 8 ounces uncooked pasta
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic sliced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1/2 cup creme fraîche I use low fat
- 1-2 tablespoons half and half (milk or water)
- 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh dill or 1/2 teaspoon dried
- 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan
- 12 ounces canned salmon drained
Instructions
- Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the pasta. Continue to boil until the pasta is tender, following package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Meanwhile, to a large skillet add the butter and garlic. Sauté the garlic over medium heat one to two minutes, or until soft but not brown. Add the salmon and dill; heat through and let the sauce thicken slightly.
- Toss cooked pasta in the skillet with the sauce to coat. Season with salt and pepper to taste and top with shredded Parmesan. Stir gently to melt the cheese. Serve warm.
