But it’s the smoothie that energizes a day of cooking, writing, testing, and recipe development.
And it’s a delicious way to begin those days!
How Healthy are Strawberry Banana Smoothies?
Strawberry banana smoothies are a refreshing and healthy breakfast or healthy snack made from strawberries, banana, low-fat yogurt, and ice cubes.
While bananas and strawberries have a high level of natural sugars; their nutritional values can actually enhance your diet, providing a wide range of nutritional benefits.
Here’s the breakdown; bananas supply fiber, which helps regulate digestion. They also contain potassium, a vital mineral, and electrolyte that your body needs to maintain blood pressure and support healthy nerve and muscle function.
Strawberries are packed with vitamins, fiber, and high levels of antioxidants. WebMD says they are among the top 20 fruits in antioxidant capacity as well as a good source of manganese and potassium.
Strawberries are just coming into season from California in my markets. And I can’t seem to get enough of them. Thus, this smoothie is making a regular appearance these days.
To the strawberries, we add a banana, milk of choice, yogurt (for the probiotics), and optionally, flax seeds for protein and additional fiber.

Flax Seed Health Benefits
This Strawberry Banana Smoothie recipe contains one teaspoon of ground flaxseed. It’s completely optional, and I don’t add it every time.
While most health research on flax is relatively new and isn’t conclusively established, there are promising health benefits emerging in the studies conducted.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie
Seriously delicious and easy to whip up in the morning. Healthy ingredients in this smoothie bring Vitamin C, probiotics, protein, fiber, and so much more to your morning. While this makes 2 smoothies, I can drink the whole thing... easily!
Ingredients
- 2 cups frozen strawberries
- 1 banana
- 1/2 cup milk (or almond, coconut, soy)
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt (or Greek yogurt)
- 1 teaspoon flax seeds or chia seeds
- honey to sweeten as needed
Instructions
Blend until completely smooth and serve immediately.
Notes
This strawberry smoothie is best ice cold. To achieve this, you need to either use frozen strawberries or throw in 8-10 ice cubes.
