Let’s talk about those 3 ingredients!

Baked Buffalo Wings Ingredients

Isn’t it a wonderful day when you can make delicious food with as little as 3 ingredients? I wholeheartedly agree! You will find ingredient measurements in the recipe card below, but here is what you need:

  • Chicken Wings: I prefer to use wingettes and drummettes
  • Baking Powder: Use non-aluminum baking powder if possible for best flavor
  • Buffalo Sauce: I’m using Frank’s Hot Sauce, but use your favorite brand!

Seriously, it’s all you need to make delicious, crispy Buffalo wings on game day, plus salt and pepper (and not too much of that).

How to Make Baked Buffalo Wings

Three ingredients and three steps. I won’t say it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3… but I’m tempted to!

  1. Pat the wings dry (this is important for crispy wings), and toss with baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Bake for 20 minutes, then turn the wings and bake until cooked through (about 15-20 minutes more, depending on the size of your wings).
  3. Toss with Buffalo sauce.

What to Serve with Baked Buffalo Wings

  • Dipping sauce
  • Celery
  • Crumbled blue cheese

After letting the buffalo wings rest for a couple of minutes, transfer them to a serving platter. I love to scatter crumbled blue cheese over the wings for an additional pop of flavor.

Sauces and dips are traditionally served with Buffalo wings. While you can make your own sauce or dip, one of my favorites, which isn’t traditional but delicious, is my 2 Minute Greek Yogurt Sauce. But because this is a quick and easy party appetizer, serving ready-made sauces and dips is also completely fine! Here are some favorites:

  • Blue Cheese Dressing: This creamy and tangy dressing is a classic flavor pairing.
  • Ranch Dressing: A great alternative if blue cheese isn’t a favorite. It’s also creamy and provides a nice contrast of flavors.
  • Honey Mustard Sauce: This sweet and tangy sauce is always a favorite and, for me, where many of my wing-loving friends gravitate!

Buffalo Sauce Variations

To keep this recipe super simple and easy, it’s important to use a buffalo sauce you like because we’re not adding ingredients to the sauce. That being said, if you love a sweeter sauce, simply add the buffalo sauce to a small saucepan and add up to 1 cup of brown sugar. Heat gently and whisk until the sugar is dissolved.

Why is baking powder used in Baked Buffalo Wings?

Baking powder is a secret ingredient that makes oven-baked wings super crispy and delicious! This occurs because baking powder draws moisture from the chicken and brings it to the skin’s surface, which allows them to become crispy and delicious!

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 35 minutes
Total Time: 40 minutes
Servings: 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds chicken wings wingettes and drums
  • 1 ½ tablespoons baking powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup Buffalo Wing Sauce like Franks

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425℉. Line a baking dish with foil. Place a baker's rack inside the dish and spray with cooking spray.
  • Pat the wings dry with a paper towel. Then, add them to a bowl and toss them with baking powder, salt, and pepper. Place them on the prepared baking rack, ensuring they are not crowded.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, and then turn the wings. Bake until they reach an internal temperature of 165℉. The total cooking time will vary depending on the size of your wings. Remove from the oven, toss in buffalo sauce (be careful because they are hot!) and enjoy!

Notes

  1. Wings – I prefer using wingettes and drumettes, but you can also use the whole chicken wing.
  2. Baking powder—If possible, use aluminium-free baking powder. Its neutral flavor is perfect in this dish. If you don’t have any on hand, use traditional baking powder. Toss the wings well, ensuring they are evenly coated with the baking powder. You want to avoid thick patches of baking powder.
  3. Buffalo Sauce—I’m using Frank’s Hot Sauce, but you can use your favorite brand (I also like Whole Foods 360 buffalo sauce). If you like a sweeter sauce, add 1-2 teaspoons of brown sugar (or to taste).
