Like me, if you’re the designated holiday cookie baker, you may always be looking for cookie inspirations to pair with your classic favorites. I hope this holiday cookie box will inspire you to create your own boxes to share this season. They can be big or small, fancy or simple—it’s the thought that counts, and everyone enjoys them!

Every year, I ask my family and friends, “What cookie would it not be Christmas without?” Excuse the grammar here!

In our family, the number one choice is always Russian Teacakes. It’s the first cookie I bake during the season, and often, it’s remade at least a couple of times.

That request is generally followed by Espresso Chocolate Crinkle along with Ginger Spice Cookies, magic bars, sugar cookie cutouts, and shortbread. And believe me, I happily comply with those wishes because very often, they’re often my favorites too!

Let’s begin with the recipes, and then I’ll give you some tips and ways to organize which cookies to choose!

This year’s cookie box is filled with simple favorites. If there is a theme for this box, it would be festive and “easy.” I had to scramble to finish these boxes this year, as we had a “monster” storm that knocked out power for a week. This meant baking was curtailed, and everything in my freezers was discarded.

Thus, I began again, and “easy” and “delicious” were my top priorities. This holiday cookie box contains a combination of homemade cookies and a few store-bought treats, such as cute marshmallow snowmen, white peppermint bark, and festive gummies.

I LOVE this year’s box because holiday baking should be fun and stress-free. Let’s get to those Christmas cookie recipes!

Here are the 11 cookie recipes I used for this year’s homemade cookie box. I will be honest: I wish I’d had time for 12 cookies, only because I adore even numbers. Even so… this year’s box is utterly delicious, and I’m refusing to think about the number! Let’s get to planning and baking.

Russian Teacakes or Christmas Snowballs is a rather simple cookie made with flour, sugar, butter, and nuts. I prefer almonds, but walnuts or pecans are equally delicious. I also add a splash of flavoring to this traditional recipe because, after all, isn’t everything better with vanilla?

Choosing Cookies For Your Box

When choosing cookies for your holiday cookie box, look for recipes that are durable, can be made ahead, and vary in texture, shape, and flavor.

Depending on the size of your cookie box, I like to include at least two cookie recipes (which can also include Christmas candy or sweet and salty snacks like Christmas Crack or Christmas Muddy Buddies or chocolate covered pretzels).

Boxes for Giving

The bamboo wooden box I used this year is large. It has dividers that separate into as many as 10 different compartments. I purchased it at Amazon, and it works well.

But you can also use bakery and craft boxes as I used in my Easy Homemade Mason Jar Food Gifts (in 10 Minutes) post. For dividers, muffin paper liners are festive and work well to separate treats, and I love adding shredded paper to give bulk and padding.
