Getting Back on Track
December is filled with decadent treats and rich and delicious foods that I in no way want to skip. So what do you do when you’ve had a bit too much sugar and indulged in all the traditional foods we love during the season?
It might be easier than you think! Registered Dietician Victoria Whittenton says, “While you may have the overwhelming urge to restrict calories, cut out carbs, or resort to an expensive cleanse, dietitians recommend you let it go and get back into your regular routine. There is no need to take any extreme measures.”
Here are three main takeaways for getting back on track:
- Start your day with a nourishing protein and fiber-rich breakfast to set the tone. Don’t skip breakfast.
- Aim to eat balanced meals and snacks like Greek yogurt with berries, seeds, and nuts.
- Stay consistent and eat healthy meals when you can.
I would also add that when possible, get back to Mediterranean Diet-influenced meals, and when indulging this season, take small portions of the traditional foods you love. And finally, enjoy this beautiful month.

December One Pot Mediterranean Diet Dinners Menu
Monday’s dinner is a one-pot vegetarian Mediterranean diet-inspired meal with chickpeas and ample flavors. Serve over your favorite grain along with a salad.
Tuesday’s dinner is a quick skillet meal with ground meat (choose your favorite, from lean beef to chicken or ground turkey). This vibrant meal is filled with healthy veggies, colors, and flavors.
Wednesday’s dinner is another skillet meal with boneless, skinless chicken thighs, Mediterranean vegetables, and flavors. It’s cooked in one skillet with couscous and is one of my favorites! Serve with salad greens.
Thursday’s dinner is a quick, easy pan-seared white fish meal with Mediterranean olives and tomatoes.
Friday’s dinner is a Mediterrean-inspired chili recipe. Add whole grain pitas and a green salad for this simple and delicious dinner!
The Treat is a little decadent. It’s December, after all, but it’s made with olive oil and is holiday-worthy!
