What Makes a Salad Mediterranean-Inspired?

Mediterranean-inspired salads often begin with simple, fresh ingredients and build flavor with herbs, olive oil, lemon, vinegar, olives, cheese, beans, grains, or seafood. They're flexible, colorful, and easy to adapt to what you have on hand.

The Mediterranean diet is generally centered around vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, olive oil, and moderate amounts of fish, poultry, beans, eggs, and dairy. It's also often associated with a lifestyle that includes sharing meals and staying active.

For this roundup, I'm using "Mediterranean" in a broad, recipe-friendly way: fresh salads inspired by the flavors and ingredients often found around the Mediterranean, from Greek-style salads to Italian caprese flavors, couscous, chickpeas, white beans, herbs, and bright vinaigrettes.
