Grilled Burger Topping Ideas
While almost any typical burger topping works here, I love to top my Greek burgers with this!
- Tzatziki Sauce or 2 Minute Greek Dill Yogurt Sauce
- Thinly sliced cucumber
- Thick slices of Tomatoes
- More crumbled feta
How to Make the Burgers
These turkey burgers are simple to make by combining ground turkey with the Greek ingredients listed in the recipe card below.
Once the mixture is mixed, form them into patties and then grill on an outdoor or indoor grill (as I’ve done here– it was too hot to grill on this day, so I used my favorite Griddler). You can also cook them in a large cast-iron or nonstick skillet coated with 2 tablespoons of olive oil.

- Step 1: Mix the ingredients together in a large bowl until well combined. Form into 4 patties, using 1/2 cup measure.

- Step 2: Heat an oiled covered grill to medium-high. Cook the patties for 5 minutes on one side, flip them over, reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the grill or skillet, and continue grilling until cooked through.
Variations
- Lamb burgers: Substitute ground turkey with ground lamb for a richer, more traditional Mediterranean flavor.
- Extra herbs: Add fresh dill or parsley to the burger mixture for added brightness.
- Spicy version: Stir in a pinch of red pepper flakes or cayenne for gentle heat.
- Lettuce wraps: Skip the bun and serve wrapped in large lettuce leaves for a lighter option, as I do with my Korean Beef Lettuce Wraps.

Garnishing Your Burgers
Like Greek Chicken Souvlaki, these burgers are perfect for grilling season. Packed with Greek ingredients like red onion, spinach, and feta, they’re incredible when added to ground turkey.
Then, top that perfectly healthy grilled burger with red onion, thick tomato slices, and tzatziki sauce (a delicious Greek yogurt-and-cucumber sauce); it’s a little like magic!
Pairing Suggestions
These Greek turkey burgers pair beautifully with simple Mediterranean-style sides:
- Greek salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, and red onion
- Baked sweet potato fries or roasted crispy potatoes
- Grilled vegetables like zucchini, peppers, or red onion
- Pita bread, hummus, and extra tzatziki, or this 2 minute Greek Yogurt Sauce for a casual platter-style meal
Recipe FAQ’s
The time can vary depending on the thickness of the patties. A turkey burger is cooked through in about 10 minutes, allowing 5 minutes per side.
Be sure the turkey burgers reach at least 165°F before removing from the grill or skillet. You can check the temperature with a digital instant-read meat thermometer/
Absolutely! While it’s incredibly easy to make your own tzatziki sauce in about 5 minutes, using store-bought sauce saves you a few minutes!
You can store leftover turkey burgers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days. Or freeze for longer storage.

Easy Greek Turkey Burgers
Ingredients
Greek Turkey Burgers
- 1 lb lean ground turkey
- 1 cup fresh spinach finely chopped
- 1/2 small red onion finely chopped
- 1/3 cup reduced fat feta crumbled
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill or 1 teaspoon dried
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Tzatziki Sauce for serving
- 1/4 English cucumber thinly sliced
Instructions
- Combine the ground turkey, spinach, red onion, feta, dill, oregano, garlic powder, and salt in a bowl. Mix until the ingredients are well combined.
- Divide the turkey mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties.
- Prepare the grill or heat a large nonstick or cast iron skillet with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. When hot, grill the burgers until cooked through with an internal temperature of at least 165°F. This takes about 5 minutes per side.
Serving
- To serve, add each patty to a bun or lettuce wrap, top with 2 to 3 tablespoons of Tzatziki Sauce along with thinly sliced cucumbers and a slice of tomato.
Notes
- Ground turkey: Use lean ground turkey, but avoid extra-lean varieties, which can make the burgers dry.
- Mix gently: Combine the ingredients just until mixed to keep the burgers tender.
- Cooking method: These burgers can be cooked on a grill pan, outdoor grill, or skillet.
- Doneness: Turkey burgers are fully cooked when they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Make-ahead: Burger patties may be formed up to one day in advance and refrigerated until ready to cook.
- Freezing: Uncooked patties freeze well for up to 3 months; thaw overnight in the refrigerator before cooking.

Great flavor, but a bit dry. Could’ve been my fault – maybe I cooked them too long? THANK YOU for making Mediterranean Diet recipes. After reading the best-seller cookbook on Blue Zones and reading NatGeo’s article about it, I’m sold. As of today (really!) we’re eating less meat and more beans, grains, veggies, and fruit.
Hi Laurie! Thank you so much for trying the Greek Turkey Burgers. I’ve not had them turn out dry for me but I do watch the internal temperature closely– also, if you happen to make them with ground turkey breast, that is a drier meat (as you know!). I’m thrilled that you are adding Mediterranean Diet recipes to everyday living– it’s such a healthy and beautiful way to live. The Blue Zones cookbook is my absolute favorite! Have a great day and weekend ❤️
