Hectic mornings often see us reaching for the quickest, easiest food to grab as we head out the door.
Often it’s unhealthy, and not at all a good way to begin the day.
Here you will find some delicious, healthy breakfast recipes you make ahead and have ready for busy mornings, without stopping at the drive through on your way out.
Best Breakfast Foods to Eat in the Morning
While some people prefer to skip breakfast, others need a source of energy to get going.
If you enjoy breakfast, choosing nutritious foods may provide long-lasting energy and keep you full for hours. These foods are typically high in fiber, protein, healthy fats, and micronutrients.
I recently came across a list of the healthiest breakfast foods. Here are my top 5 for healthy, energizing mornings from Healthline’s list of 12 ideas.
- Eggs: Eggs are high in protein and may promote fullness and help lower your calorie intake later in the day.
- Greek Yogurt: Greek yogurt is high in protein, low in calories, and supports gut health with probiotics. It’s my go-to morning meal or healthy snack.
- Coffee: I HAD to add this one. In case you don’t believe me, here’s a quote: “It’s high in caffeine, a molecule that promotes alertness, improves mood, and increases physical and mental performance.”
- Oatmeal: “Oatmeal is rich in beta glucan, a type of fiber that may lower cholesterol levels and increase feelings of fullness. It also contains many vitamins and minerals.” Think overnight oats, baked oatmeal, etc.
- Chia Seeds: Easy to add to overnight oats, smoothies, and more, chia seeds are high in healthy fiber, which may help keep you full longer.
More items on their list include berries, fruit, whole wheat toast, which is always a good idea, as well as nuts, green tea, and protein shakes.
