Salmon Burgers at a Glance
- These easy Salmon Burgers are crisp on the outside, tender inside, and ready in about 15 minutes.
- Made with canned salmon or leftover cooked salmon and a handful of pantry staples, they are a quick, budget-friendly option for lunch or dinner.
- Serve them on buns with your favorite toppings or alongside a fresh salad, coleslaw, or seasonal vegetables.
Canned or Fresh Salmon
Canned salmon makes these burgers especially convenient because it is inexpensive, pantry-friendly, and ready to use. Drain it well before mixing it with the remaining ingredients.
You can also make the burgers with leftover cooked salmon. Remove any skin or bones, flake the salmon well, and use it in the recipe just as you would canned salmon.rs.
Key Ingredients
These salmon burgers are made with mostly pantry ingredients. The exact measurements are included in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Cooked Salmon: Use well-drained canned salmon or leftover cooked salmon.
- Breadcrumbs: Panko creates a light, crisp texture, but regular unseasoned breadcrumbs also work.
- Seasonings: Garlic powder, salt, and red pepper flakes add flavor. Fresh chives, parsley, or dill are also delicious additions.
- Eggs: Eggs bind the mixture together and help the burgers hold their shape.
How to Make Salmon Burgers
This pantry-friendly recipe comes together quickly:
- Combine the salmon burger ingredients in a bowl, then shape the mixture into 3-4 patties.
- Sear the patties in a hot skillet with a small amount of oil until browned and crisp on both sides. A grill pan also works well.
- Serve the salmon burgers with or without a bun. Add a crisp salad or a side of crunchy coleslaw to complete the meal.
Serving Ideas
These salmon burgers pair well with almost any salad. I especially enjoy them with coleslaw, a crisp chopped salad, or a Mediterranean-inspired side such as this 10-minute Greek Salad.

Salmon Burgers Recipe
Ingredients

- 2 large eggs slightly beaten
- ½ cup panko breadcrumbs or dry breadcrumbs
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
- ¼ -½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- ¼ cup fresh herbs chopped (like parsley, chives, or dill)
- avocado oil or olive oil for the pan
Instructions
- Mix and shape: Drain the salmon well and flake it into a bowl. Add the remaining burger ingredients and mix until thoroughly combined. Shape the mixture into 3-4 patties, using a measuring cup to portion them evenly.
- Cook the burgers: Heat about 2 tablespoons of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties, leaving space between them, and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, flipping once, until golden brown and crisp.
- Season and serve: Transfer the salmon burgers to a paper towel-lined plate and season with salt to taste. Serve on toasted buns with greens and a smear of Dijon mustard, or enjoy them alongside a fresh salad or coleslaw.
Notes
- Canned Salmon: My favorite canned salmon is Bear & Wolf, Trident Costco, or Wild Planet.
- Herbs: When my herb garden is in full swing, I add a variety of herbs to the salmon patty mixture. My favorite combination is still parsley and chives.

The only canned salmon sold here in Louisiana is by a company that has Alaskan Salmon on the front of the can and on the back, Product of Thailand!! My cousin passed away now, lived in Oregon would catch fresh and can -pack salmon himself and send me some!! I don't trust these salmon cans that falsely claim to be Alaskan salmon!! Who sells the salmon you mentioned in the recipe??
Thanks,
Evelyn in Louisiana
Hi Evelyn! Having lived in Oregon, they do have some of the best canned salmon! I've been buying Trident, which is wild caught in Alaska and processed in the U.S., primarily also in Alaska. I use it so often that I buy a pack of it at Costco. Here is the link: https://www.costco.com/p/-/kirkland-signature-wild-alaskan-pink-salmon-6-oz-6-count/100334750
These weren't too fishy and, in fact, tasted similar to a crab cake sandwich.
So glad you liked them, Deborah!
Thank you- so good!
