Mini Plum Tart Ingredients:
The recipe card at the bottom of this post contains ingredient measurements and instructions. Here is a list of what you will need:
Puff Pastry—I keep this in my freezer for quick treats when delighted by unexpected guests or sweet and savory cravings. While I prefer all-butter puff pastry, frozen puff pastry will do!
Plums—Any plums you have on hand or can easily find at the market work equally well. I’m using fresh Italian plums (which are a bit smaller). You could also use apricots or peaches.
Cream Cheese—Cream cheese is the base of pastry cream. In many recipes, I specify that full-fat cream cheese works best. However, if you want to use lighter cream cheese (which I’m doing here), it works equally well.
Powdered Sugar – To sweeten the pastry cream.
Milk or Cream – I’m using cream to brush the edges of the pastry to give it that beautiful golden brown color. You could also use an egg wash or a simple beaten egg to add shine and color.
Vanilla, Cinnamon and Cinnamon Sugar – Adding the warmth of cinnamon in the cream and topping adds a delicious flavor flayer, as does the vanilla extract.
How to Make a Mini Plum Tart
Preheat the oven to 400℉ and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Step 1: Make the pastry cream and slice the plums
Combine the ingredients for the cream cheese pastry cream in a bowl and thinly slice the plums.
Step 2: Prepare the puff pastry
Smooth the fold lines of the puff pastry, and using a 2 ½ inch round cookie cutter, cut 9 circles. Use a smaller round cutter to score an inner circle in each circle. Then, prick the center of the pastries with a fork.
Spoon or pipe small amounts of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each circle and spread slightly.
Step 3: Add the plums
Arrange plum slices on top and brush the edges of the pastries with milk or cream. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar over the top of each tart.
Step 4: Bake
Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the edges of the pastry are beautifully golden brown. Carefully transfer to a cool rack and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Puff Pastry Tips:
Puff Pastry is an ingredient I try to always have on hand in the freezer. From the savory Spinach Puff Pastry Christmas Tree and other puff pastry appetizers I make throughout the year, this simple ingredient is key!
- When using puff pastry, it’s best to thaw overnight in the refrigerator before using, otherwise, when unfolding the pastry, it can crack.
- Keep the thawed pastry as cold as possible. Work with one sheet at a time, keeping the second in the refrigerator until ready to use.
- Place ready-to-bake puff pastry recipes in the refrigerator while the oven preheats. Adding cold puff pastry to a hot oven gives you those flaky layers we love!
What can I do with puff pastry scraps?
The scraps left behind shaped puff pastry tarts can make sweet sweet and savory treats. Much like leftover pie crust, you can brush them with butter, sprinkle cinnamon sugar over the top and roll them up or twist for cinnamon twists.
You can also make tiny Chocolate Croissants or small Elephant Ears or palmiers.
For savory treats, try sprinkling grated Parmesan cheese with spices like paprika or cayenne pepper — which are delicious with tomato soup, by the way!
How long will Mini Plum Tarts last?
Like most puff pastry recipes, these plum tarts are best enjoyed when warm from the oven. They can also be served at room temperature. If you have leftovers, they can be refreshed by rewarming in the oven for a few minutes the following day.

Notes
- Plums: I’m using small Italian plums in this recipe. The quantity may vary depending on the size and variety of the plum you are using. Using a very sharp knife, slice them as thin as possible and place 3 slices on each tart.
