What to Love About a Nutella Mug Cake

This messy, super indulgent mug cake dessert satisfies chocolate brownie and Nutella lovers alike. Truly, oh-my-it’s simply divine.

And so simple, there is absolutely no reason not to make this mug cake right now! Unless, of course, you’re out of Nutella. Or… It’s breakfast time.

As I write that… I’m questioning how terrible it might be? Nutella mug cake for breakfast? (I have a smile on my face.) We put Nutella on toast for goodness’ sake!

Ingredients for Chocolate Brownie Nutella Mug Cake

Ingredients Needed for this Mug Cake

  • Milk: Both dairy and nondairy work well
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder: Enhances the chocolate flavors.
  • Flour: I’m using all-purpose flour
  • Baking powder: For rising
  • Nutella: Or your favorite hazelnut chocolate spread

Here’s How to Make Chocolate Brownie Nutella Mug Cake

  1. Add milk, flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder in a microwave-safe mug. Whisk until smooth.
  2. Then stir in the Nutella and mix until the batter is smooth. A fork or whisk works great!
  3. Microwave on high for 45 to 60 seconds. Continue microwaving in 15-second intervals. Microwaves vary, you want the cake to look set and dry with the edges slightly pulling away from the mug. The mug cake will feel springy and a little fluffy. This may take another 30 to 60 seconds.
  4. Let the mug cake cool a few minutes before eating as it is very hot! Top with any desired topping… or eat as is! Absolutely delicious!

I think it needs a little bit of sugar, cause the cocoa powder is very prominent and kinda bitter. Other than that, I love it! Def will make again.

    1. Hi Axel — thank you for trying the mug cake. Cocoa powder can be very prominent and vary from brand to brand. I’m so happy you enjoyed it and thank you for letting me know how it worked for you!

This is chocolate decadence at its best– especially with a hazelnut chocolate spread. It’s so easy, so delicious, and perfect for those day (or mornings) when you’re craving chocolate!
