5 Minute Valentine’s Day Crack: Chex Mix Recipe

All you need is five minutes, a few festive ingredients — and a container to put it in.

So simple that even small children can help with this one.

Perfect for homemade hostess gifts, or simply to bless someone you know who could use a friend this month.

Package in jars or cellophane wrappers, or even decorated lunch sacks.

This quick-fix sweet and salty Chex Mix recipe is made with a combination of Rice Chex, Corn Chex, pretzels, mini marshmallows, M&M’s, chocolate hearts, and white chocolate.

It makes a big batch. So be prepared to pass it around — or cut the recipe in half if it’s for a small group.

A glass bowl brimming with marshmallows, red and white candy, pink candy hearts, pretzels, and chocolate squares sits on a pink cloth. Nearby is a jar of marshmallows, Reese's candies dish, and a Valentine snack bag—the perfect setup for crafting some Valentine's Day crack delights.

Valentine’s Day Crack Ingredients

Here’s what you need to make this sweet and salty snack (specific ingredient measurements are in the recipe card at the very bottom of this post):

  • Chex Mix Cereal (I like Rice Chex, but use a combination or your favorite cereal)
  • Pretzels (mini twists work great, or I love the XO Pretzels I bought at Target, but they also have at Amazon.
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Valentine’s Day colored M&Ms
  • White chocolate for melting
  • Chocolate Hearts (I like Reese’s Pink hearts, but chocolate hearts are super cute too)
  • Seasonal sprinkles (optional)

How to Make Valentine’s Day Crack

In a large bowl, combine the cereal, pretzels, marshmallows, and M&M’s. Mix them up a bit to evenly distribute.

STEP 1: MELT THE CHOCOLATE

Meanwhile, melt the white chocolate according to package instructions over a double boiler or in the microwave.

STEP 2: COMBINE

Once the chocolate is melted and smooth, drizzle it over the cereal mix, pretzels, marshmallows, and M&Ms. Combine with a spoon, spatula, or your hands. Be sure the cereal mixture is evenly coated with chocolate. Melt more white chocolate if needed!

A festive Valentine's Day Crack awaits on a tray filled with a colorful snack mix—pretzels, cereal pieces, marshmallows, and candies—all coated in a white glaze. Pink and red candy accents are scattered throughout, perfect for celebrating love.

STEP 3: LET DRY AND HARDEN

Spread the mixture onto a large sheet of parchment or wax paper and scatter Valentine’s Day sprinkles over the crack if desired. Let dry and harden for a few minutes or up to an hour.

Break it into bite-size pieces and store it in airtight containers or baggies for up to 1 week.
