What I Love About Stovetop Popcorn
Ok. I am in love. And I don’t say that lightly. This Homemade Sweet and Spicy Coconut Curry Popcorn is a new snack favorite… for all time. It’s lightly sweet, spicy, and almost addictive.
Plus, it’s the easiest snack… ever!
My neighbors, who’ve moved to our neighborhood from the curry capitals of the world, chuckle at me over this new favorite. But they nod their heads… because they know me. I am the one always asking for curry recipes—for every block party, every gathering, every cooking club meeting.
That’s me—hand-raised. Because of the ask, I’ve sampled the most delicious curries in the world. And I’ll never tire of them, whether it’s a quick and easy chicken curry recipe, roasted chickpeas, or popcorn!
I hope you love it too!
When to Serve Stovetop Popcorn
So… now you understand why I love this Coconut Curry Popcorn.
No longer is popcorn that bland little, okay, it’s there and if I’m really munchy, maybe I’ll-take-a-bite kind of snack. For me, it’s like, “Are you going to finish that, husband?”
And yes, packed in snack-size baggies in my pantry goodies basket, are little bites of yum.
It’s movie season at our house. March Madness has passed, football is long over, baseball is just getting started… and while I’m sure there is a soccer game somewhere… I get the clicker for a little while– which means… some movies. My husband will watch it with me, sometimes. The son… well, no, not usually. But, if I’ve made snacks, maybe. I’m smiling… Popcorn will generally bring them around.
And this recipe will keep them interested.
If you love curry… try this! It’s so simple.

Homemade Sweet and Spicy Coconut Curry Stovetop Popcorn
Equipment
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1/2 cup popcorn
- 1/4 cup butter melted
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon curry powder
- 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon cayenne
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Melt the coconut oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 2 kernels of popcorn. Once they pop, add the rest of the kernels, shake the pan lightly to distribute the oil. Cover the pan with a lid, but tilt or crack it slightly to let steam escape.
- Meanwhile, in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter. Add the brown sugar, curry powder, cayenne, and salt; whisk vigorously to combine. Keep warm while the popcorn pops.
- When the popcorn finishes popping, immediately pour the warm curry butter over the popcorn while it’s still hot. Stir thoroughly. Transfer the popcorn to a large bowl and shake to make the unpopped kernels settle to the bottom.
- Serve warm. Yum… and double yum!

Just salt and curry with the corn popped and they were asking if that was caramel corn . Sweet tooth hints!
