If you love easy seasonal snack mixes, this patriotic Chex mix is one of those simple treats that disappear quickly. Set out a bowl before the burgers (like these firecracker burgers) hit the grill, pack it for a picnic, or portion it into little bags for a festive grab-and-go treat.

Why I Love This 4th of July Chex Mix

  • It takes about 5 minutes to make, plus a few minutes to dry.
  • It's festive, colorful, and perfect for patriotic celebrations.
  • It's sweet, salty, crunchy, and always party-friendly.
  • No baking is needed, which makes it perfect for hot summer days.
  • It's easy to customize with your favorite cereal, candies, or sprinkles.

When it comes to quick-fix sweet and salty snacks, you can never go wrong with a holiday Chex mix. It's easy to make, simple to serve, and perfect for snacking before the main meal.

This red, white, and blue version is especially fun for Independence Day. With Chex cereal, popcorn, pretzels, patriotic M&M's, sprinkles, and white chocolate, it's a festive 4th of July party mix that looks beautiful on a snack table or in a 4th of July Snack Board, and is almost impossible to stop nibbling.

  • Chex cereal (I use Rice Chex to keep the red, white, and blue theme)
  • Mini pretzels: You can also use pretzel sticks
  • Chocolate Candy: Red, white, and blue M&M's or another patriotic chocolate candy.
  • Popcorn: Use freshly popped popcorn or a prepared bag for convenience.
  • White Chocolate: White chocolate chips or candy melts for easy melting.
  • Red, White, and Blue sprinkles: While this is completely optional, it does add a festive sparkle to the snack mix!

This 4th of July Snack Mix is the perfect addition to a big summer spread. While there will almost definitely be BBQ and more 4th of July desserts than I can count, there needs to be a festive, sweet, and crunchy snack to tide everyone over. Plus, it's a 5-minute treat you can whip up in no time-no baking needed!

If you're a fan of our Christmas Snack Mix, you'll notice I've swapped the marshmallows for popcorn, which adds a slightly healthier, saltier option. If you prefer marshmallows, by all means, use them instead of popcorn.

How to Make 4th of July Snack Mix

In a large bowl, combine the cereal, pretzels, popcorn, and M&Ms. Mix them up a bit to evenly distribute.

Step 1: Melt White Chocolate

Meanwhile, melt the white chocolate according to its package instructions in the microwave or over a double boiler or bain-marie.

Step 2: Coat the Chex Mix

Once the chocolate is melted and smooth, drizzle it over the cereal mix and combine it with a spoon or even your hands. Be sure the cereal mixture is evenly coated with chocolate. Melt a little more white chocolate if needed!

Step 3: Let Dry

Spread the mixture onto a large sheet of parchment or wax paper. Add the sprinkles before the chocolate is dry and let sit for 15 to 30 minutes or until the mixture is dry and the chocolate is cool and hardened. Break it into pieces and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer.

How to Store 4th of July Chex Mix

Store the snack mix in an airtight container at room temperature for several days to a week. Freezer for longer storage!

How to Freeze 4th of July Snack Mix

I store it in an airtight plastic bag in the freezer. I actually like it best right out of the freezer - this way it lasts for a long time without going stale.
