What to Make in September Recipes and Ideas | 31Daily.com

September is that magical in-between month when late-summer produce overlaps with the first cozy flavors of fall. Apples, corn, peaches, and tomatoes are still at their best, while pumpkins, squash, and hearty greens start to make their way to our tables. It's the perfect season for both light, fresh suppers and warm, comforting bakes.

🍂 September Highlights

September Favorites You'll Want to Try:

Cabbage Recipes

Early fall is cabbage season. A delightful cruciferous veggie that’s chock-full of dense nutrients. From green to red to purple, cabbage brings a vibrant color to all your favorite foods. Here are some ideas…

Carrots Recipes

There is no comparison between garden-grown carrots and packaged baby carrots in the produce department. Buy local organic carrots this month and add them to simply everything: salads, soups, pastas, and sauces. Cut them into snack-size pieces and keep them handy in the refrigerator. Here are some ideas:

Beans Recipes

A hallmark of late summer and early fall. A great addition to anything you make this month, from soups and stews to salads… and all on their own. Tasty with almonds, bacon, basil, Parmesan, olive oil, onions, parsley, potatoes, red pepper flakes, and tomatoes. My favorite green bean recipe is this:

Peaches Recipes

Since mid-August, the peaches in my area have been coming to market. And truthfully, I can hardly get enough! The good news is they are delicious in ice cream, pies, cobblers, salads, grilled, and yes, even simply eaten over the sink. Here are some ideas.

Plums Recipes

A relative of the peach, plum season ranges from May through early October. With over 2,000 plum varieties, it’s a delightful stonefruit to experiment with. Or simply eat over the kitchen sink!

Squash Recipes

The baskets at local farmers’ markets are brimming with all kinds of squash. From summer squash to acorn squash, yellow squash to pattypan squash. From butternut to spaghetti. And yes… my all-time favorite – zucchini! Here are some ideas:

Tomatoes Recipes

Tomatoes are fully in season now. Fresh from the vine-ripe tomatoes are simply delicious… all on their own. But incredibly delightful when seasoned with a bit of salt, pepper, garlic and basil. Add to almost everything you make in August. Here are some ideas:
